I have the honour to acknowledge the
receipt of your despatch No. 432 of the 27th. ultimo
from which I note that the Colonial Goverment has ne
instructions to pay for any buildings taken over from
the Chinese Goverment; that His Excellency the Governor
is willing to pay running expenses of the Wag lan Light
for the period elapsed from the 1st. of January of this
year only; and that the Colonial Goverment is taking
over the expense of maintaining this Light at the request
of the Chinese Goverment. It will now be my duty to
forward the above for the information of the Inspector
General.
2.
As you are aware the Light Station
was handed over by me on the 2nd. instant to the Honour-
able Basil Taylor, from whom I hold a receipt.
3.
I take this opportunity of begging
to be allowed to correct an error in the first part of
the statement of claim forwarded under cover, of my
despatch No.313 of the 16th. February. Under *Deductions*
the following item should be struck out.-
